Tadka Talk – Velachery

This new post is all about the Punjabi Restaurant – “Tadka Talk – by Chef Arora” located in Velachery.  This was yet another CFG Showcase.   And it is “all – veg” restaurant!!!  As part of this blog, I am using the photographs clicked by “Fotographer YesDee”

Having heard good reviews about this place, was quite excited to be here for the Showcase.  Reaching a bit earlier than the expected time, gave us time to explore the interiors and here is a quick view of the interiors.

As part of welcome drink, we tasted Kiwi & Aam Panna – which tasted sweet & spicy.   Chef made a twist to Aam Panna by adding some kiwi to it.   This drink was made with Raw Mango, Sugar & Herbs and is claimed to be one of the best drinks for Summer.

One of our team members asked for a different drink and what he got was yummily tasting“Kesar Pistawale Lassi”

Then it was time for Chole di Rassa” — a shorba made out of Channa with channa pieces to bite into.  This was a bit spicy but tasted damn good!

Our starter course included – a plate with :
“Panneer Amristari” –— Panneer dipped in gram flour batter with Ajwain & deep fried in Mustard oil.  This was a yumm Dish!  Panneer was super soft.

“Lahori Sheekh Chollia Te Khumbwalli” –  This had green gram, paneer, cheese, almonds etc. mixed and made as kebab.

Corn based Kebab (not sure of the name!).  These started tasted good with the “Mango Chutney” (see pic above on 3 chutneys).

Mango chutney needs a special mention here as it tasted so nice that we were literally drinking on it 😉

As part of main course we had Tandoori Roti, Butter Naan & Pulao — Breads were soft and Butter Naan was rich with butter that we could even smell the butter 😉

As side dishes we were served :  Rajma, Aloo Gobi & Paneer – all 3 dishes tasted good.

With all dishes tasting so good….it was also filling our stomach fast! 🙂

Now with time for desserts, we had two options — One was Hot Gulab Jamun — this was super yummy just that I missed my Vanilla Ice cream combo with it

& other was “Rasamalai”  — this was good; it had a bit of strong rose flavour which wasn’t giving some of us a good feeling but nothing to complain majorly here! 🙂

One of our team members also tried Kajar Halwa during one of his visits and was raving about it.  So you can also check that out 🙂

The menu that we were served was part of “Tasting Menu” — which includes 1 Starter, 1 soup, unlimited main course, 1 dessert – costing only Rs. 385/- (as of today).  Check this menu out if you want to get an overall feel !

Though located in Velachery and some of us could feel that it is far away….I should say this place is worth the effort to travel.  We had our team members coming from Anna Nagar & Mogappair…so yea…go for it!

Khansama – The Royal Indian Master Chef

I am back with yet another blog post.  This time it was “Khansama – The Royal Indian Master Chef” restaurant as part of CFG Showcase.

Here again, I am using the Photographs clicked by “Fotographer Raghu as part of the showcase.  We were served a Set menu as part of the showcase and we tried to stick to it barring a few additions.

We were there a bit too early before even the restaurant opened.  After some minutes, we were seated inside and waited for other CFG members to join.

While waiting for others, hunger pangs led me to taste the “Pappaya Pickle” on the table and chutneys.  Though called as “Pickle” it tasted sweet!!!

Starters:  Soon “Makkai ka Shorba” (Corn Shorba) was served.  No it is NOT a soup!  It IS Shorba.  That’s what people told us.  Honestly, I have no clue what the difference is between them.  Google search tells me it is same just different languages!  If there is a difference & you know it, do post a comment to this post on the same 🙂

Barring all that, it tasted good.  True it tasted a bit bland yet good!

Next we were served “Chhene se bhare Kumbh” – Mushroom Kebab stuffed with cheese & malai.  Tasted ok.  Not a fan of mushroom, so nothing much I can say here.

Then came “Bhatti Paneer” – Paneer kebab with Chat masala.  Paneer texture was quite soft and good.  Only flip side of this dish was that Chat masala was overpowering the taste.  May be one of those days they sprinkled slightly more!! 😉

Last of the Vegetarian starter was “Paneer hare mattar ka tikka” – Another paneer dish with peas paste spread in between.  This had a bit of mustard taste – not sure if there was mustard sauce used in the paste or was it the peas.  With Chutney, tasted good.

Main course started with Butter Naan & Roti – both were done nicely and was not the type where you have to pull too much as it cooled down!

Accompaniments for Naan / Roti was:  Dal Kalbeliya [(a) Dal Makhani].  This dish was super!  Very nicely cooked and tasted yummmmm

Another one was Pachcha paneer – kind of paneer dumpling in a green gravy dish!  Tasted good.  Had a tinge of sweetness though.

Our next main course dish was “Shahi subz Biryani” and yes it was also good 🙂  Tasted good with Raitha & Dal Makhani (oops…Dal Kalbeliya)

Our Desserts section – had 2 sweets served – Chikki Kulfi & Anjeer Halwa.  Chikki Kulfi, the name was very tempting for me, that I decided to try it even if it was not part of showcase menu.  Luckily it was 🙂

It was kulfi with bites of sweet – the sweet tasted more like coconut-jaggery though I am not sure what it was.

Anjeer Halwa – was a bit disappointing.  Both desserts were too sweet esp Anjeer Halwa.

In the whole showcase, there were a few flips – not in terms of food though!  Vegetarians had to wait until the non-veg eaters finished the starters & moved on to main course.  Wish people were a bit smart enough in attending.  Found that service has to go up a bit more…felt the people attending were a bit confused even with just 15 of us.

Secondly, when the non-veg smoky kebab starters were served, fire (or should I say smoke) alarm buzzed at least 3 times.  This is yet another let down confusing people if the alarm goes off due to smoke from the kebabs or is there a real fire!!!  They should do something about this.

Over all, was a nice experience in terms of food.  A meal for two would easily cost around Rs. 2,500/-  — Yess…being in KNK, it is certainly a very coshtly place! 🙂

Dario’s Restaurant

Time to blog yet another CFG Showcase @ Dario’s Restaurant, Chennai.  In this blog am using pictures clicked by Fotographer Raghu

An Italian restaurant that serves only Vegetarian & Eggless dishes is the USP of this place.  I was impressed with the first thing that I saw the “Outdoor Seating” that this restaurant had.  Now, Chennai & Outdoor eating don’t go well…but this was an “Enclosed outdoor seating”.   It is more of Sicilian Cuisine than just saying Italian!  What’s the difference?  Find out …for I don’t know 😉

It was spacious and had a special roofing to keep cool during Chennai Summers.  This area also housed open kitchen for Pizzas.

After initial greetings & introductions, we seated ourselves and found a printout that had the menu that we were going to be tasting.  This was a sweet surprise, I should say…because usually, we note down the names and the names of the items we relish in comes to us later to put up on the blog.  Ok that was a carefully planned step. 🙂

We had – Starters, Salads, Pizzas, Pastas & Desserts on the menu to be served.   I shall write the names of the items here and for the contents in each of the items, do refer to the menu on their website here

Starters:  Funghi Darios, Polpette Di Spinaci E Formaggio, Antipasto Siciliano, Assorted Bruschetta

I found Funghi Darios exhibiting strong garlic taste.

Spinaci E Formaggio – was good – esp. the Spinach cheese dip!  These are spinach & fresh cheese balls served with the dip.

In Sicilian platter, do check out Olives with chillies.  Olives were fresh & spicy 🙂  We were served “Gorgonzola Cheese” — a variety that I certainly dislike — but this one was damn good!  Wish the platter had only that cheese 😉 Not sure if they serve the same cheese every time…may be they variate it.

Assorted Bruschetta : Among these, my favourite was the one with Goat Cheese (the cheese was so damn creamy!) but the rest weren’t as impressive personally for me. I must say the Bruschetta bread was rightly crispy.

Salad: Aranciazola, Verdure Grigalate

Both salads were good.  Try Verdure Grigalate with some cheese crumbs (not part of the dish but ask for it!)  Tasted yummy!

Pizza: Carduni, Stromboli

Of the pizzas, liked Stromboli with right amount of Mozarella, spinach & red chillies.  Yes you can add more chilly flakes if you wish to 🙂

Pizzas were rightly crispy and with right amount of cheese.  Possibly with a little more cheese, they would have drooped down in weight 😉  Each pizza has approximately 180 gms of cheese, we were told.

Risotto & Pasta:  

Risottoragli Asparagi  : One of my favourite dishes of the lot.  A bit bland but tasted great – a perfecto combo of Aspharagus with Cream & Cheese!

Risotto Siciliana – Being a dish with tomato sauce & aubergines, it did taste tangy.  Not my personal preference.

Crespelle Ai Funghi – Pasta with Cheese filled and dipped in White sauce – a dish that will easily fill you.  So watch out while ordering 🙂

Desserts: Tiramisu, Panacotta, Erupting Chocolate Cake, Lemon Cheese Cake

Tiramisu – just lacked something…may be because it was eggless!

Overall, this was an exciting showcase with all dishes Veg and everyone could try each of them 🙂  A meal for two would cost approximately Rs. 1, 200/- here.   Menu link given above indicates the prices too.

I should mention the Moroccon Mint Tea that we had – was too good and made me feel light & also served as palette cleanser too 🙂 and one of us tried the cranberry tea (see pic below).  I am not a fan of flavoured tea and only exception now was the moroccon mint tea.
